Dorking Football Club has passed into the hands of new owners following discussion with Dorking Football Club Limited.
Mole Valley District Council has held some very positive discussions with the Directors of Dorking Football Club Ltd, in relation to the condition and refurbishment of the Meadowbank ground and the future of football in Dorking.
These discussions have also included other parties interested in using the grounds, and potentially taking on the ownership of Dorking Football Club, as well as the Combined Counties League and the Surrey County FA.
These discussions have reached a successful conclusion and the ownership of DFC has now passed to a new company, Dorking Football Club Community Interest Company, (DFC CIC). MVDC has granted DFC CIC a new 50 year lease on the ground, and is currently planning for the refurbishment/redevelopment of the Meadowbank ground, to be completed by the start of the 2015/16 season.
In the meantime, the club will play home games through a ground share with another local club.
Property Portfolio Holder, Charles Yarwood said: "I am delighted that Mole Valley District Council has been able to play a key role in ensuring a strong and vibrant future for football in Dorking.
MVDC is extremely grateful to the Directors of Dorking Football Club Limited for all the support they have given to DFC over the past two decades, and to the Directors of the new Dorking Football Club CIC for the passion and enthusiasm they have demonstrated for building on DFC's heritage and developing a sustainable, community focussed, not-for-profit club, for many years to come.
Great thanks are also due to the Surrey County FA and to the Combined Counties League for the support they have provided throughout this development."
